The Cost Of War

The Battle Of Jalibah Airfield, Feb. 27, 1991.

Two 120 mm sabot rounds from an M1 Abrams from 3/69 Armor hit an M2 Bradley forward of the turret, killing SPC Andy Alaniz.

The armor unit had taken small arms and indirect fire from an Iraqi force. 3/69 had moved too far east of their objective and from a combination of a dynamic battlefield, close quarters and movement from one battle to another, mistakenly identified several Bradleys as enemy armor. As many as 16 120 mm rounds were fired.
